The Summer Camp Where Kids Don’t Just Attend, They Grow Into Leaders

How the Young Founders progression model helps students build confidence, leadership, and real-world skills year after year.

Every summer, parents start asking the same question:
“What should my child do this summer that will actually help them grow?”
There are plenty of programs that keep kids busy for a week.But many parents are looking for something more, an experience that builds confidence, leadership, and real-world skills their kids can carry forward.
That’s exactly why the Young Founders Summer Program was designed differently.
Instead of being a one-time experience, the program follows a progression model that allows students to grow, return, and eventually step into leadership roles.
In other words, kids don’t just attend.
They grow with the program.
The First Step: Discovery
For most students, their journey begins as a student.
Students are introduced to skills many traditional classrooms don’t spend much time developing, such as:
• teamwork
• leadership
• communication
• creative problem solving
• confidence speaking in front of others
• entrepreneurial thinking
Through hands-on activities, challenges, and collaborative projects, students learn how to share ideas, work with others, and think creatively about solving problems.
For many kids, something powerful happens during this stage.
They begin to realize:
“My ideas matter.”
And that realization can change everything.
The Second Step: Confidence
Many students return to the program for additional sessions.
And something interesting happens when they do.
Returning students often begin to naturally step into leadership within their groups. They help welcome new students, share ideas more confidently, and take on more responsibility during activities.
You can actually see the difference.
Kids who were once quiet participants begin leading discussions, presenting ideas, and helping others.
This stage builds something incredibly important for young people:
confidence in their voice and their abilities.
The Leadership Step: Coach-In-Training (CIT)
For students who have attended the program and are ready for more responsibility, we offer a Coach-In-Training (CIT) opportunity.
This role allows returning students to begin learning what leadership really looks like.
Coach-In-Training participants help our program coaches by:
• assisting during activities
• supporting younger students
• helping guide group discussions
• learning mentorship and leadership skills
• practicing communication and facilitation
They are still learning and growing themselves, but they also begin to experience what it means to help others succeed.
And that’s where real leadership begins.
Why This Model Matters
Many summer programs are wonderful experiences, but they’re designed as one-time events.
We believe something more powerful happens when students are given a pathway to grow.
A program that evolves with them allows kids to move from:
participant → confident contributor → young leader.
That progression gives them something incredibly valuable:
A sense that they are capable of more than they thought.
Parents frequently tell us they see changes in their children after the program.
They notice their kids:
• speaking up more
• sharing ideas more confidently
• taking initiative
• feeling proud of their accomplishments
• becoming more comfortable working with others
These are the kinds of skills that benefit kids not just during summer, but in school, friendships, and eventually their careers.
